‘Mriya’ the Ukranian Dream

It was heart breaking to see the footage from Russian State TV at Gostomel airport, North of Kyiv showing the world’s largest aircraft, Antonov AN-225 Mriya destroyed after the battles of Hostomel to take control of the airport. It was reportedly destroyed  on 24th February, 2022.

The Ukrainian manufactured world's largest aircraft Mriya once landed in India back in 2016 at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad.

It had come to Hyderabad in India from Turkmenistan. Mriya landed for a technical halt. It was uploaded with a generator that weighed 116 tonnes. Which is almost half the maximum total carrying capacity of the plane. At its first landing, it kept everyone wondering about its size of its wingspan of 88.4 metres carrying six turbofan engines. Its longer length is of 84 meters from nose to tail.
